Our Story

Ken and I once took a leap of faith—a whirlwind seven-month missions trip around the world with our barely-toddler and infant in tow.

When we returned home to Orange County, we faced a new challenge: after applying to more than a hundred jobs, doors just weren’t opening.

We realized it was time to change our approach. Instead of waiting for an opportunity, we decided to create one—and dared to chase the kind of “someday” dream we’d always talked about.

At first, we didn’t know exactly what Hanaichi would be. We only knew we wanted to build something meaningful for our little family of four.

Reflecting on our travels and the year that had reshaped our hearts, we kept returning to one simple, beautiful memory: sitting together, enjoying soft, fresh daifuku mochi with our loved ones.

Back in Orange County, we searched for that same authentic experience—mochi made fresh with ripe fruit and sweet bean paste—but found nothing quite like it.

That’s when the spark ignited: to create our own mochi, just as we remembered it in Japan, and to share that joy, one handmade bite at a time.

Our Craft

Each piece of Hanaichi Mochi is handmade in small batches, starting with our own premium rice flour blend for that signature pillowy texture. We carefully prepare each filling—whether it’s classic red bean paste or a new creamy delight—ensuring freshness, quality, and flavor harmony. No shortcuts, no mass production—just craftsmanship and care in every detail.

Our mochi is free from preservatives and meant to be enjoyed fresh, as it’s always been in Japan. We believe in making something so simple, so well, that it becomes extraordinary.
